Veera & Jari in Oz! Part III, Tasmania
The first thing to do when arriving to a new place, is of course to go shopping! And that's
what we did in Launceston, 2 hour after landing in Tasmania... Just a little bit... just because
there were some real bargains :)
When in Tasmania, the second thing should be going and finding the animals.
This little creature is an echidna [nokkasiili]. We met them in the Platypus house, north from
Launceston.
Echidnas, [ɪ'kɪdnə], sometimes also referred to as "spiny anteaters", are the only surviving monotremes apart from the Platypus. The four surviving species, native to New Guinea and Australia, all belong to the Tachyglossidae family. The echidna is named after a monster in ancient Greek mythology. [Wikipedia].
Then started the tiring drive towards the Cradle Mountain. The guys
tried several styles to get a good sleep.
The wild Cradle Mountain and the Dove lake walk around the lake.
This small lizard was sunbathing on the boardwalk.
The Nelson falls after Queenstown.
Veera's turn to examine the map. Me? Look like a tourist? What?
The convict prison area Port Arthur near Hobart, the capital. Veera imagining what it felt
to have been sent to a prison a 2-month boat trip away from home. Just for stealing bread
or other minor crime.
The splendid tour guide of ours. The kitchen of the Commander's house.
The Commander's house servant bells.
The post office and telephone center.
In Hobart, we found the cutest little shop - full of fairies!
